The Rosneath Peninsula

Garelochhead and the Peninsula can be reached by good roads. From Helensburgh the A814 comes through Rhu and up the east side of the Gareloch past the Faslane naval base to Garelochhead.

Further north than turnoffs for Helensburgh, the A817 runs from the main road up Loch Lomond through to Garelochhead. This is ‘the haul road’ built to haul materials for the building of Faslane, which goes through Glen Fruin, and has been voted one of the countries favourite roads by motorists.

The A814 also comes down from Arrochar, twisting and turning a long the eastern shore of Loch Long until it gets to the Whistlefield roundabout just above Garelochhead.

The B833 runs along the shore all the way around the peninsula , which is also crossed by Peaton Hill, and also by the military road from Whistlefield to Coulport. This MOD road, which can be used by the public, has spectacular views of the Gareloch, Loch Long and down the Clyde estuary.
To get here, you can walk, cycle, drive or catch a bus, and you can also get here by ferry or train.
